Noisy indoor-Stairs near the cafe
When filming the presenter footage indoors near the balcony cafe we came across a number of problems. Firstly we had a lot of footsteps coming from the stairs behind us, this made it hard to hear what Dan and i were saying. If we were to film in the same location again we would try to film it at a less busy time, another thing that we could do to help the issue would be to use a tie mic so that you could hear Dan and I a lot clearer. Another problem that we encountered was the people talking as they were walking past us, also some of them had phones which we could hear when it came to editing the sound. To fix the situation we could again try filming at a less busy time.
When filming we also noticed that the high ceilings made voices and sounds echo the only thing that we could possibly do to make that less noticeable when filming in that location again would be to use a tie mic, even though it wont take away the noise the presenters will be heard a bit clearer. Our location was also very close to a number of Macs and computers which made a lot of noise as people were doing their college work on them which made a lot of noise because of the tapping.
Quiet indoor-Classroom
When filming in the classroom even though it was quiet we still encountered a few disturbances. The first thing that we noticed when it came to editing the footage was the noise of the fans in the Macs, even though nobody was on the Macs playing loud music or videos because they were switched on and the mics are so sensitive you could hear it in the background. Another thing that was quite noticeable when we reviewed the sound after filming was the phones being switched on, even if phones are on mute you can still hear noise when the person receives a message or a call. What we could do if we were to film in the same location again would be to ask the people with the phones if they would mind turning them off for a short while while we film our presenter work.
Another thing that you have to be careful of when filming in an indoor location is the lights, even though you might not be able to hear the buzzing when it comes to editing the sound you may notice it because of the mic being so sensitive. Thats why it is important to check the noise of a room using the might before you have settled on a location. If i were to film this again i would check that the lights weren't too noisy before filming. Sometimes if they are on for a long period of time the noise can be louder.
Outdoor-Near the car park
When filming outside we came across a number problems with our sound. Firstly a thing that we noticed when checking the sound during editing was the noise of the cars in the car park, even though we couldn't do anything about it at the time if we were to do it again we should think about going to that location at a different time when people are less likely to be entering/ leaving the college . Another thing that we could look at which could solve the problem would be extending the boom-pole and putting it closer to Dan and mine mouths. By extending the boom-pole it could help to increase the sound of our voices making the background noise less loud.
Secondly we noticed that a lot of people like to enter/leave from that entrance of the college which made it very noisy with people talking as they walked in. Another thing that we noticed was that for college students that area is a very popular spot for people to go on a cigarette break to have a chat, this also made a lot of noise. Besides that we also encountered some noise coming from the wind, even though we couldn't do anything about it at the time if we were to do it again we could try standing away from the wind or move the boom-pole closer to the people speaking. also if we had more time we could have checked the weather outside and made sure that it would be a clearer less windy day. Because of it being such a windy day the trees also made quite a lot of noise so thats another thing to think about when choosing a location, unless you would like that effect.
