Assignment 2: Tasks 2- Visualisation
When listening to the song ‘disconnected’ by Jazz Morley the idea of footage to put with the music would be something heartfelt and sad to go with the emotion of the lyrics and tune. The footage that I think would mirror the music would be to have the singer ‘Jazz Morley’ singing her lyrics whilst playing the piano so that we could then emerge this footage with other footage of her and her brother saying goodbye to each other as he leaves for Afghanistan. I would tell the story of her missing her brother because she feels she’s ‘becoming disconnected’ and not wanting him to leave. But at the same time she appreciates how heroic he is and how brave he must be.
Assignment 2: Tasks 2-brief and storyboard (disconnected brief)
I would firstly shoot ‘Jazz Morley’ playing the piano and singing her song using the same shot position all the way through, which would be a mid shot of the side of her so you could see the expression on her face and her hitting the piano keys. This would help to show more emotion to the music video and show her true feeling about the song and her story.
Then for the other bit of the music video I would shoot ‘Jazz Morley’ as herself and an actor playing her brother. The first shot would be a long shot of her crying because she doesn’t want him to go but he just walks away. The next shot would be of him leaving for Afghanistan in his uniform and then another shot of Jazz sad looking out of a window crying because he’s gone and she feels disconnected. Then she gets a nice letter from her brother which would be a mid shot of her smiling and reading the letter. After him being in Afghanistan for months she realizes that maybe she’s being selfish so she cheers up and realizes how heroic he’s being and how brave he must be. Then ending shot would be him coming back from Afghanistan after months of her feeling disconnected and giving her a big hug. I would then edit these’s two pieces of footage together to make it into an emotional music video.
good analysis of the song in your initial listen. good plan in visualisation. more detail and terminology needed for a higher grade.
