Assignment 2: Tasks 2- Visualisation
When listening to the song ‘disconnected’ by Jazz Morley the idea of footage to put with the music would be something heartfelt and sad to go with the emotion of the lyrics and tune. The footage that I think would mirror the music would be to have the singer ‘Jazz Morley’ singing her lyrics whilst playing the piano so that we could then emerge this footage with other footage of her and her brother saying goodbye to each other as he leaves for Afghanistan. I would tell the story of her missing her brother because she feels she’s ‘becoming disconnected’ and not wanting him to leave. But at the same time she appreciates how heroic he is and how brave he must be.

Assignment 2: Tasks 2-brief and storyboard (disconnected brief)
I would firstly shoot ‘Jazz Morley’ playing the piano and singing her song using the same shot position all the way through, which would be a mid shot of the side of her so you could see the expression on her face and her hitting the piano keys. This would help to show more emotion to the music video and show her true feeling about the song and her story.
Then for the other bit of the music video I would shoot ‘Jazz Morley’ as herself and an actor playing her brother. The first shot would be a long shot of her crying because she doesn’t want him to go but he just walks away. The next shot would be of him leaving for Afghanistan in his uniform and then another shot of Jazz sad looking out of a window crying because he’s gone and she feels disconnected. Then she gets a nice letter from her brother which would be a mid shot of her smiling and reading the letter. After him being in Afghanistan for months she realizes that maybe she’s being selfish so she cheers up and realizes how heroic he’s being and how brave he must be. Then ending shot would be him coming back from Afghanistan after months of her feeling disconnected and giving her a big hug. I would then edit these’s two pieces of footage together to make it into an emotional music video.

Assignment 2: Task 1 - The Initial Listen (Disconnected by Jazz Morley)

This song has a very heartfelt, emotional, soulful, mood and tone to it, the 22 year old singer-songwriter (Jazz Morley) was inspired by her brother, to record 'Disconnected' while he was serving in Afghanistan. Her vocals ooze with pain and heartache. A similar artist would be ‘Adele’ because she is also a soul singer with a heartfelt and emotional voice that sometimes can be depressing. The genre of the song ‘Disconnected’ by Jazz Morley I would describe as soul music more than anything else because she is inspired by an emotional and sad story.

Analysis of Coldplay’s ‘The scentist’
The lyrics are used when acting out the visuals in this music video. This is shown when he sings the lyrics ‘I’m going back to the start’-he’s walking backwards in the music video.  Also when he sings the lyrics ‘Running in circles’ the camera circles around him. I believe that the lyrics of this song are about a scientist who is so caught up in his work that he neglects his girlfriend, but realizes it eventually and wants to "go back to the start" and begin fresh.

The images in this music video compliment the music by showing what the lyrics are really about. The music video is quite sad and depressing, the mood and tone is mirrored with this using the music. The music video shows lead singer Chris Martin driving with his girlfriend. They get into an accident, she goes flying through the windshield and dies. Chris just walks out of the car, out of the forest, and into a city. This is all backwards. The video was shot normal direction and then played backwards, while Chris sang the lyrics to the song backwards.

The Dark Knight sound presentation

Group presentation evaluation

I believe that our presentation went well. We chose a good film opening ‘The Dark Knight’ which contained lots of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds.  We included information about what the meanings of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds are, what we could find of them in the film opening, how they were created and how the sounds set a mood.
If we could of changed anything, I think that we would include more information on each slide about the topic and go more in depth with the subject. Also we should have been more open when doing our presentation and not relied on the script so much.
I believe that we that we did use our glossary well when producing our presentation. We used our glossary to help us understand the meanings of different words this helped us to write more about the different topics.
I leant a lot in this task including lots of different meaning when looking at sound e.g ambient sound, sound bridges, contrapuntal sound, SFX, diegetic and non-diegetic sound. I learnt how to listen to sound and analysis it into different groups.
